What is Astragalus?
It is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the legume family, growing to a height of approximately 90–150 cm.
Flowers bloom in July and August; flower stalks emerge from the leaf axils, bearing pale yellow, butterfly-shaped flowers. The plant then forms pods and produces yellowish-brown seeds arranged in a single row.
The roots are used for medicinal purposes, and their size varies depending on the cultivation region, ranging from 20–100 cm in length to 0.5–1.5 cm in diameter.
