The bark of the Acanthopanax tree is called Haedongpi.

* Acanthopanax trees found at high altitudes and deep in the mountains are characterized by the absence of thorns.

Among natural medicinal herbs, the bark of the lacquer tree, Haedongpi, and Eucommia ulmoides are among the materials where medicinal properties are better in the bark than in the wood.

Among these, Haedongpi is a highly valued medicinal herb used in traditional Korean medicine and is often added to Samgyetang (chicken soup) during the summer.
